Lewatit TP207
Lewatit® TP 207 is a weakly acidic macroporous cation exchange resin with chelating iminodiacetic acid functional groups. It selectively extracts heavy metal cations from weakly acidic solutions into weakly alkaline solutions. For the removal of divalent cations from neutral water, the selectivity follows the order:
Cu²⁺ > VO²⁺ > UO₂²⁺ > Pb²⁺ > Ni²⁺ > Zn²⁺ > Cd²⁺ > Fe²⁺ > Be²⁺ > Mn²⁺ > Ca²⁺ > Mg²⁺ > Sr²⁺ > Ba²⁺ > Na⁺
• Selective removal of trace heavy metals from metal finishing plant wastewater, even in the presence of high calcium ion concentrations
• Recovery of industrially useful metals from electroplating rinse waters
• Removal of metal contaminants from pickling and treatment baths
• Concentration and recovery of heavy metals in hydrometallurgical solutions
• Removal of heavy metals from contaminated groundwater
Selective extraction proceeds smoothly even in the presence of the following complexing agents:
• Nitrogen compounds such as ammonia, aliphatic and aromatic amines
• Polycarboxylic acids such as citric acid, gluconic acid, glucuronic acid, oxalic acid, tartaric acid
• Phosphates such as tetrasodium diphosphate, sodium polyphosphate
Lewatit® TP 207 cannot remove heavy metals from solutions containing EDTA or NTA. In cyanide‑containing solutions, only cadmium can be removed.
For the extraction of heavy metals following UO₂²⁺ in the selectivity series above, Lewatit® TP 207 must be converted with caustic soda solution after each regeneration cycle / before each operating cycle. After conversion, it is partially in the monovalent salt form, e.g., the monosodium form.
